There's a magic at MFC...
There's a special kind of magic here.
Stop and look for a second. There's so much more going on than just people waving blunted swords around. There's an avalanche of little things happening within and around this amazing club. It creates a special magic.
It's our positivity and our fun drawing in a complete stranger, older than I by some margin, and giving her pause as she soaked in the joy of the room. She knows now that fencing is for everyone and age is no barrier. She might even start fencing - you never know.
It's the cheering, ooohing and aahing coming from the kids party down the hall as two of our members put on an impromptu demonstration for them - they too had felt all those positive vibes and had asked if we could share them.
It's coaches putting a new whiteboard to use, providing soft structures around which fencing fun and coaching cohesion could be built. And then using those soft structures and plans in supporting, guiding and mentoring our teenage volunteers helping out with the junior classes.
It's three, maybe four, new kids coming for the very first time, getting involved and having fun.
It's that sense of 'hey, there's something really cool going on here and I want to be part of it!' percolating through us and out to those passing by. It's a special kind of magic, and it's more than the sum of it's parts, more than epees masks and vests.
MFC is bursting with this magic right now. Looking around I can see it. People from outside are noticing too. So look around the room next time you're there, feel the magic and smile.
