Farewell open air training, we're heading back inside!

With happy memories of the fencing nets, it's time to get back to our familiar fencing hall.

There was something magical about fencing en plein air (as the fancy people say). Watching coaches try new things, attending to technique and tactics in a different way, considering from scratch what fencing ought to be and how it ought to feel, playing new games or old games in new ways. I have a new appreciation for what fencing can be.

I think our time in the open air has made us wiser. I know it has made me more appreciative – of fencing itself, of the community that came together to find a way to fence and of the coaches who did extraordinary things to facilitate that.

And so comes the joyful thought of even more expansive fencing fun than we've ever had before! We'll take what we've learned outside when we move back inside, in that spirit of fun, creativity and exploration.

Thursday night, our first session after this open air experiment, is worth looking forward to!
