Sundays are for sabre stabbing, plus cake!

Five sabre fencers looking oh so happy as they post for a group photo after their pools bouts. They stand with beaming smiles beside two metal pistes in the splendid environs of Sydney Sabre in Stanmore

On Sunday these legends took up Sydney Sabre's invitation to come over for one of their novice comps. Along with the Sydney Sabre crew and fencers from Sydney Uni, they had a brilliant day of fun and fierce competition – with hard-fought victories, gracious defeats, signature moves, guidance from expert referees, and Iceman seeding first out of pools and taking bronze at the end of the day!

I'm not sure what to make of being called 'raiders' but we did get invited back so it can't be all bad… 😉

As well as our team having just the best time, their cheer squad of parents, grandparents and siblings also got to experience this well-run day of spirited fencing, camaraderie and good vibes, plus bonus cake and prosecco!

This was a fantastic first external comp for these five fencers – big thanks to everyone at Sydney Sabre for making us so welcome and here's to more fun in the future!
