Strength and conditioning with Sarah O'Connor

A group of fencers in the hall standing with arms stretched out to the sides, as Sarah demonstrates the activity. Another smaller group standing doing a tennis ball reaction activity. This is just the beginning of a big day!

In early August MFC invited accredited exercise physiologist Sarah O'Connor from Move Clinic to run a special training session focussed on fencing-specific strength and conditioning.

Sarah's aim was to help our fencers reduce the risk of injuries as well as providing them with exercises they can do at home and at training to be fitter, faster and stronger.

Sarah took us through exercises to help fencers develop their strength and power, and showed us how to measure fencing power in relevant ways so we can benchmark this and measure future improvement. She also put together a whole lot of useful stretches that we will gradually integrate into training.

Thanks to Sarah for sharing her expertise and giving our fencers some great tools to help them power up their game!
