Richard Emmerick Shield – round 01

Grid of shots of many moments from the comp

Sat 30 July was Round 01 of our Club comp, the Richard Emmerick shield – a great day of fierce and friendly competition in foil, epee and sabre, plus lucky entry prizes, and a delicious BBQ and home made cupcakes to fuel the fun!

To promote participation, connections and learning, this year we’re opening all three rounds of the Richard Emmerick Shield to fencers from other clubs, and for some of our fencers this was their first competition experience! We saw great sporting spirit, cooperation and collaboration as everyone played their part in all aspects of the day.

Thanks to support from our State MP Trish Doyle with an Office of Sport Local Grant in 2021, we’ve been able to run our comps, training sessions, and special community events, using the state of the art scoring equipment which the grant provided – streamlining scoring, timing and refereeing, and giving fencers experience with the systems they'll encounter in higher level comps.

Thanks to support from Katoomba and Upper Blue Mountains Community Bendigo Bank Branch this year, we’ve been able to buy a laptop to run the competition software Fencing Time, giving fencers a high-quality competition  experience and also allowing members to learn the software and expand their skills.

Club members can log in to view the comp results

A reminder that Round 02 is coming up – details and registration will be up soon at www.mfc.org.au!
